Murrayville Community Resources
Our staff is very involved with our community, and we'd like to share a few links about some of our special friends and select causes:
Blind Endeavors - Blind Endeavors Foundation was founded by Steve Baskis. In 2008, Steve lost his eyesight while on patrol in Iraq. Naturally devastated initially, Steve became determined not to miss out on life- for Steve, life included adventures most of us only dream of doing- mountaineering, skiing, cycling, kayaking. This organization encourages disabled individuals to participate fully in life but also is involved in developing the equipment and techniques to allow those individuals to enjoy life to the fullest. Steve participated with a group of blinded veterans who visited Georgia in 2015, climbing Mount Yonah and shooting with Gainesville PD while visiting with other vets at the Ranger Camp in Dahlonega. http://BlindEndeavors.org
Blind Appalachian - The B-A-T program is run by the Blinded Veterans Association Operation Peer Support (BVA OPS) members to help get visually impaired veterans of various abilities out to experience the Appalachian Trail. The blinded veterans will complete sections of the trail over time, around specific dates to memorialize great military accomplishments that represent the freedom gained by overcoming our adversaries. The idea is to allow participants the opportunity to overcome their own adversities they face through their injuries and to raise awareness and understanding with the general public and those that may be out there that may have their own challenges. http://www.blindat.org
Feed the Heart - To meet the needs of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta patients and their families, Cardiac Step Down Unit staff members serving on the Patient Family Advisory Council and parents serving on the Cardiac Family Advisory Council have created Feed the Heart, a volunteer-based initiative designed to provide meals for cardiac patients and their families during hospital stays. https://www.choa.org/medical-services/cardiac-care/feed-the-heart
Elachee Nature Science Center http://www.elachee.org/
We're pleased to be involved with this great organization as Dr. White is very active on their board. Elachee is located on 1500 acres in Chicopee Woods with 10 miles of walking trails. They serve 35,000 students yearly with their school programs and summer camps - as well as individuals and families who enjoy Snake Day, Trillium Trek, and just walking in the woods! We invite you to get involved with this valuable resource in Gainesville, GA.
Gainesville Housing Authority http://www.gainesvillehousing.org/
Murrayville Vet Clinic helped establish and supports this free art program for low-income children in Gainesville's public housing. The program, led by the Quinlan Visual Arts Center, teaches GHA kids creative problem solving through drawing, painting, mosaics, printmaking and other arts.
