Murrayville Veterinary Clinic wants to help Graer obtain his autism service dog!
This is Graer. He has autism and is hearing impaired... and he’s awesome! Graer is eight years old. He loves fishing, painting, building with tools, animals, jalapeños and the color red. He is smart, witty, creative and full of love. Needing to repeat kindergarten, Graer was supported by multiple special needs resources when he entered first grade and remarkably has progressed to being placed in the gifted program when he begins second grade.
Every day is a challenge for Graer. He struggles with communicating, hearing, regulating his emotions, sleeping through the night, social situations, sensory processing, and many daily tasks. And yet having adopted Graer at birth, his parents never focus on his disabilities but only see his possibilities. His next step is to begin working on his independence which will be supported by his new service dog through Ry-con Service Dogs.
Graer's dog will be trained to be his constant companion and will help by reducing anxiety in new or difficult situations, help with sleep patterns, calm fears, de-escalate meltdowns, encourage positive social interactions with peers and adults, and allow for more independence when in public.
